David Turnley
David C. Turnley
Back Ground: David C. Turnley was born on June 22, 1955 in Fort Wayne Indiana. He has a twin brother Peter Turnley who is also and award winning photographer. He grew up in Fort Wayne as well and started his photography by documenting Fort Wayne's rural area. He then attend 3 colleges for photography. He attend the University of Michigan then he went to Harvard University in Massachusetts. He then went overseas to attend a university in Paris, France. Over his career as a photographer he has won many awards for his photography and documenting of historic events. He has the Pulitzer prize and the two world press photo of the year awards. He has documented many famous people such as President Obama, President Mandela, David Beckham, President Clinton, Kid Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and he also documented Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Football team for two years and counting. His most famous documentation is that of documenting the fight for freedom in South Africa called the Apartheid. He covered this event from 1985-1997. Over this period of time he became friends with Nelson Mandela.
Style:
I don't really think that David Turnley has a style but most of his photos I have seen depict emotion. He documents people's emotions in the timed photos. I also noticed that he likes to take photos in Black and White. I have seen happy pictures sad pictures and many other things. Another thing that I noticed is that he likes to put the person he is documenting into the center of the picture to lead your eyes to that person and then after you look around at the background that the person is in.
